Todd J. Bornstein

Todd Bornstein combines a background in both law and accounting to offer his Estate Planning clients a comprehensive, clear and effective approach to creating tailored estate plans. He focuses on educating clients about their options, ensuring they understand both immediate and long-term benefits and fostering trust in his integrity and expertise. His growing and loyal client base is a testament to the quality of service he provides.

A former CPA, Todd’s dual background enhances his work in estate planning, estate & trust administration, estate & gift Tax Returns, prenuptial agreements and estate & trust litigation. He has handled complex IRS estate tax audits, including high-value, multi-million-dollar cases. In recognition of his exceptional abilities, Todd is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), a national organization that elects lawyers to membership who demonstrate the highest level of integrity, commitment to the profession, competence and experience as trust and estate counselors. 

Todd is also dedicated to teaching. He provides continuing education courses for accounting and financial firms and other organizations on estate planning and estate tax and trust income tax matters. As an instructor for the Maryland State Bar Association, he teaches advanced estate planning to attorneys and has led seminars for the Department of Justice, the AICPA National Tax Conference and other organizations.

Committed to giving back, Todd has served as co-chair of the MSBA’s Pro Bono Committee and has been involved with the Wills for Heroes program since 2005. He teaches estate planning to volunteer attorneys who assist first responders with wills and powers of attorney. In addition to his leadership positions in legal organizations, Todd serves on the Board of Directors for the Bethesda Chamber of Commerce.

Todd earned his J.D. with honors from the University of Maryland School of Law and completed a judicial clerkship at the Circuit Court of Baltimore City. He is an active member of the MSBA’s Estates and Trusts Section Council, where he currently serves as chair-elect, transitioning to chair during the 2026-2027 term. Todd previously led the MSBA’s Taxation Section Council and co-chaired the MSBA & MACPA Advanced Tax Institute. He is admitted to practice in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.
