Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Family Law Paralegal to support our growing Family Law practice group. The ideal candidate brings 5–7 years of substantive family law experience, exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, and the ability to proactively manage complex matters from intake through resolution with minimal supervision. This role works closely with supervising attorneys and serves as a key point of contact for clients during some of the most significant moments of their lives.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, prepare, and finalize pleadings, motions, discovery requests, discovery responses, and correspondence for attorney review
- Manage case files from opening through closing, including document management and organization, calculating and tracking deadlines pursuant to applicable court rules, maintaining court filing compliance, and ensuring all deadlines are met
- Prepare, review, organize, and analyze discovery materials, including interrogatories, written requests for production, and document productions
- Conduct legal research and summarize findings relevant to assigned matters
- Cite-check motions, briefs, and memoranda;
- Assist in preparation for hearings, depositions, and trials, including exhibit organization and witness binders
- Prepare and file documents with Maryland , DC., and Virginia courts, including e-filing through MDEC, CaseFileXpress, and Virginia e-filing systems
- Coordinate with experts and litigation support professionals as needed
- Support intake process by conducting initial client interviews and gathering background information under attorney supervision
- Maintain strict confidentiality and exercise professional judgment in all client interactions
- Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, and court personne
Qualifications
Required
- 5–7 years of paralegal experience with a concentration in family law and/or litigation
- Demonstrated knowledge of Maryland, DC and/or Virginia family law statutes, procedures, and court rules
- Proficiency in DC, Maryland, and/or Virginia courts’ e-filing systems
- Litigation support experience, from case initiation through trial
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with outstanding attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently, exercise sound judgment, and proactively problem-solve
- Experience drafting pleadings, motions, correspondence, and discovery requests and responses
- Experience managing multiple cases, with competing deadlines, in a fast-paced environment
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel)
Preferred:
- Paralegal certificate or associate’s/bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies, legal studies, or a related field
- Experience with iManage or similar document management systems
- Notary Public commission (Maryland)
