Robert S. Selzer, a founding member of Selzer Gurvitch Rabin Wertheimer & Polott, P.C., retired from the practice of law on January 1, 2017.
Before retiring, Rob built a distinguished career as a trial lawyer known for his competitive drive, strategic insight and steady demeanor. While he thrived in the intensity of the courtroom and was deeply committed to advocating forcefully for his clients, he was equally recognized for his calm, measured approach. Even in highly contentious matters, Rob maintained clarity and perspective, presenting his cases with precision and conviction – an approach that proved consistently effective throughout his career.
Following his service in the Peace Corps, Rob pursued a legal career that would challenge him both intellectually and competitively. His practice was evenly divided between commercial litigation and corporate and business matters, and he successfully secured numerous multimillion-dollar verdicts and settlements. Particularly meaningful to Rob were the lasting relationships he developed with clients, many of whom became close friends and came to value his intellect, integrity and unwavering ethical standards.
Rob also valued the strong sense of collegiality and teamwork at Selzer Gurvitch, where collaboration and shared commitment to client service define the firm’s culture. He found the practice of law to be both deeply rewarding and uniquely challenging, especially the competitive rigor of trial work.
Rob earned his law degree from the University of Miami School of Law and received his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Albany.
