About the Role
Selzer Gurvitch is a well-established, mid-size commercial law firm with over 40 years of history serving individuals, families, entrepreneurs, and high-net-worth clients across the mid-Atlantic region. Our Trusts & Estates practice is one of our core strengths, and we are growing.
We are looking for a skilled Legal Assistant who wants to do meaningful work in a collegial, professional environment. You will work closely with experienced estate planning and trust administration attorneys, contributing to every stage of the client experience – from intake through the execution and administration of complex estate plans.
What You Will Do
- Prepare first drafts of estate planning documents, including Wills, trust agreements, powers of attorney, and advance medical directives using document drafting software
- Coordinate document finalization: editing, printing, arranging notaries and witnesses, indexing for vault storage, and assembling estate planning portfolios
- Handle client intake, conflict checks, and engagement letter preparation
- Obtain Tax ID numbers for estates and trusts; record deeds
- Maintain and organize client files in accordance with firm procedures
- Manage attorney calendars and schedule client meetings
- Communicate professionally with clients, courts, and financial institutions
- Process expense reports and gather supporting documentation as requested
What We Are Looking For
We welcome applications from candidates with a range of backgrounds. Here is what will set you up for success:
- Experience as a legal assistant, paralegal, or in a related administrative role supporting attorneys — Trusts & Estates experience is a strong plus, but not required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Comfort with technology: experience with document management systems (e.g., iManage), document production tools (e.g., WealthCounsel), e-signature platforms (e.g., DocuSign), recording services (e.g., Simplifile), or time and billing software (e.g., TABS) is a plus
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail — you manage competing deadlines without dropping the ball
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; you interact with clients and colleagues with warmth and professionalism
- High level of discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information
- Notary Public certification, or willingness to obtain one
- Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred, but equivalent professional experience is equally valued
What We Offer
- Competitive salary commensurate with your experience
- Comprehensive benefits: medical, dental, and vision coverage
- 401(k) plan
- Generous paid time off and firm holidays
- 12 weeks of paid parental leave
- A collegial, professional environment where your contributions are recognized
- Real opportunities to grow your skills and career alongside a talented legal team
