Neil Gurvitch
General Counsel
Neil Gurvitch’s more than four decades of success as an estate planning and business attorney reflect not only his extensive legal knowledge and experience, but also the personal qualities that distinguish his practice. A thoughtful listener who exercises sound judgment and discretion, Neil is known for developing trusted, long-term – often multi-generational – relationships with clients who seek his counsel on legal, business, tax, family and personal matters.
Neil’s commitment to the role of attorney-advisor emerged early. While in high school, he developed a strong interest in the law and chose a professional path distinct from his family’s manufacturing business. He earned his undergraduate degree and Juris Doctor from George Washington University, followed by a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center. At Selzer Gurvitch, Neil has built a highly respected practice focused on corporate, tax, estate and succession planning, with particular emphasis on family wealth preservation and the structuring and negotiation of complex business and investment transactions, including business mergers and acquisitions. Neil currently serves as the firm’s General Counsel.
Throughout his career, Neil has embodied Selzer Gurvitch’s longstanding philosophy of pairing excellence in legal service with a commitment to community involvement. He currently serves as Treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors of George Washington University Hillel. His prior leadership roles include serving as General Counsel to the Bender Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington, Trustee of the Jewish Federations of North America and member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington.
Neil’s professional accomplishments have been widely recognized. He has been named among the region’s “Top Estate Planners” by Washingtonian and Bethesda Magazine and was selected as a “Legal Elite” by Washington Smart CEO. He holds the highest AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell and is admitted to practice in Maryland, the District of Columbia, New York and before the U.S. Tax Court.
