Amanda Gilbert is a dedicated family law attorney who guides clients through all aspects of family law, including separation, divorce, child custody, adoption and assisted reproductive technology. With a blend of legal expertise and a solution-focused mindset, Amanda addresses even the most complex family matters with a commitment to achieving practical, effective outcomes. Known for her empathy, patience and calm approach, she offers both strategic counsel and compassionate support during challenging family transitions.
A trained mediator and Collaborative practitioner, Amanda is a strong advocate for resolving family disputes outside the courtroom. She serves as a private mediator and is also a Court-appointed ADR Facilitator for domestic relations cases in the D.C. Superior Court. As a past president of the D.C. Academy of Collaborative Professionals (DCACP) and current board member of Collaborative Dispute Resolution Professionals (CDRP), she remains actively involved with both DCACP and CDRP, championing the Collaborative Process as an alternative to litigation.
While Amanda encourages mediation, the Collaborative Process and negotiated settlements whenever possible, she is also a fierce advocate for her clients in the courtroom when litigation is necessary. With experience in both complex litigation and family law, she works to minimize the emotional and financial impact of litigation. Amanda takes the time to explain every step of the process, offer tailored solutions and create strategies aligned with her clients’ unique goals. She has successfully represented clients in both trial and appellate courts in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
Recognized for her excellence in family law, Amanda has earned accolades from Best Lawyers in America in the areas of Family Law, Family Law Mediation and Collaborative Law: Family Law for several years. In 2024, she was named to The Daily Record’s Family Law Power List and recognized in 2025 as a Top Attorney by Bethesda Magazine.
Licensed to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia, Amanda holds a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and a B.A., with honors, in Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis.
