Tom Hughes is an associate attorney in the firm’s Litigation practice group, where he helps clients navigate a wide range of civil and commercial disputes, including business conflicts, breach of contract, negligence claims, real property issues, construction law and trusts and estates contests. Known for his down-to-earth approach, Tom builds strong relationships with his clients by taking the time to explain complex legal matters in a way they can easily understand, ensuring they feel comfortable and informed throughout the process.

Before joining Selzer Gurvich, Tom represented landlords and property management companies in both residential and commercial litigation. His experience also includes handling a variety of family law cases, giving him a well-rounded perspective on the legal challenges his clients face.

Tom’s legal career was shaped by his clerkship with Maryland Circuit Court Judge Richard “Ricky” Sandy in Frederick County, which provided him with invaluable courtroom experience and a deeper understanding of the judicial process. He earned his B.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech and his J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law.

Tom has also been recognized as one of Maryland Super Lawyers Rising Stars from 2023 to 2026, an honor given to top-rated attorneys based on peer recognition. He is an active member of the Bar Associations of both Montgomery County and Frederick County, as well as the Montgomery County Chapter of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association (APABA).

Outside of the office and courtroom, Tom enjoys spending time with his wife and two young sons. He is an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles, Washington Commanders and Virginia Tech Hokies football.
